A request for an AI tool may begin with proposals taking too long, research being difficult to reuse or a client deliverable passing through repeated review. The useful starting point is the work itself: what arrives, who contributes, what the reviewer needs and where time or quality is lost.

• Research: preserve the sources and reasoning behind an analysis so colleagues can use it again.
• Client delivery: improve the hand-off between research, drafting, review and the final client document.
• Team adoption: turn a useful individual approach into something colleagues can understand, check and maintain.

Sometimes the useful result is a clear view of what to buy, what to leave alone or how to use existing tools better. Other situations need a changed process, support for the team or software built around a specific gap.

A proposal can be well written and still promise the wrong team, an unavailable capability or work the firm has not done. Keep a named owner for credentials, staffing, scope and commercial commitments. AI can help assemble a draft; the firm remains responsible for what it offers the client.

For client work, agree which material may be reused, the approved processing environment and the review needed before anything leaves the firm. A confidential deliverable is not automatically suitable for a shared content library.

Judge the change by the work it enables. Relevant measures might include review effort, missing information, avoidable rework and whether another colleague can use the method. Faster drafting alone does not establish better client delivery.

The first conversation can establish the problem, the people involved and what would make further work worthwhile. There is no preparation requirement, and scope, timing and price are agreed before an engagement begins.
